The 2024 CEET & ETI REU Program

This is a joint REU Program with projects available through both the UMass Energy Transition Institute (ETI) and the Computing for an Equitable Energy Transition (CEET) program. ETI projects look to solve challenges of the energy transition in an in equitable way. CEET projects also solve challenges of the energy transition in an in equitable way, but focus on computing and analysis to achieve those goals.

Program Highlights:

  • Runs  6/2 - 8/11.

  • Get paid $700/week

  • We provide free housing, up to $600 travel reimbursement, and weekly meal vouchers.

  • Learn how to do impactful research

  • Receive professional development training.

  • Learn how to get into and excel in graduate school.

Who should apply:

  • Students who will be enrolled in university, or community college for the Fall 2024 semester.

  • People with an interest in using computing and data analytics to solve the challenges of climate change and the energy transition.

  • Experience with programming, electrical engineering, or data analysis is a plus but not a requirement.

  • Those who have previously participated in an NSF funded REU program are not eligible to apply.

  • U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or U.S. permanent residents.

To apply, you will need the following:

  • A current college transcript (unofficial is fine)

  • Personal demographic information

  • A statement of purpose (described below)

  • A faculty member or boss who will write a letter of recommendation for you.
